27-08-2024
KTZ held a briefing on readiness to transport new crop grain and coal for the heating season.
Grain transportation
In the first seven months of 2024, 4.7 million tons of grain were loaded on the KTZ network. Transportation in Kazakhstan increased by 3% and amounted to 1.1 million tons. The volume of loading of milled products increased by 13.8%, to 2 million tons. The growth was due to an increase in supplies to the domestic market - by 6.4% and exports by 13.8%. Traditional export destinations for Kazakhstani grain and flour remain: China, Central Asian countries, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey.
KTZ has a sufficient number of rolling stock to ensure the transportation of grain cargo. The inventory park of KTZ-Freight Transportation LLC includes over 1.6 thousand locomotives. In 2023, 112 locomotives were purchased. In 2024, it is planned to purchase 185 units of locomotives, of which 119 units have already been delivered. By 2029, 374 modern locomotives will be purchased. In addition, 100 shunting and 100 mainline locomotives will be purchased under an agreement with the Chinese corporation CRRC Corporation Limited. As part of the preparation for the grain campaign, the Kostanay and Akmola freight transportation departments, leaders in grain transportation, are fully equipped with shunting locomotives. There are about 16 thousand covered wagons in Kazakhstan. Of these, more than 32% belong to Kaztemirtrans JSC, the rest belong to private Kazakhstani and foreign operators. The total fleet of grain trucks exceeds 11.8 thousand. Of these, 2% are Kaztemirtrans JSC, the rest are private operators. Thus, the wagon fleet is sufficient to fulfill all agreed transportation plans.
For the uninterrupted transportation of grain, the staff of station workers has been increased. At the stations of Kokshetau, Baumanskaya, Talshchik in the Akmola region, additional cargo receivers have been hired. At the stations of Kostanay, Kushmurun and Sarykol in the Kostanay region, cargo receivers, train compilers and freight cashiers have been hired.
Coal transportation
Over the 7 months of 2024, the volume of coal transportation on the KTZ network amounted to over 55.6 million tons. More than 38.4 million tons of solid fuel were transported within the country, 17.2 million tons were exported. The main directions of coal export transportation are Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, China, Russia. In the PRC, there is a 5-fold increase in coal transportation volumes. In order to ensure a stable passage of the 2024–2025 heating season, KTZ is implementing a Roadmap for coal transportation. The document includes activities for the work of the operational headquarters, monitoring groups, as well as visits to the main coal dead ends and meetings with the participation of representatives of interested government agencies and coal mines.
KTZ is systematically monitoring the provision of coal transportation, the remaining stock of solid fuel in the warehouses of thermal power plants, and also controls the provision of applications from shippers and the implementation of wagon turnover.
