KTZ plans to transport 4.2 million passengers this summer

In Almaty, an extended on-site meeting was held between the management of KTZ and Passenger Transportation JSC with tourism operators and owners of recreation centers on organizing summer transportation in the direction of Lake Alakol. Representatives of the NCE Atameken, the Committee of Railway and Water Transport of the Ministry of Transport and industry associations were invited to the meeting.

In the summer months of 2024, KTZ plans to increase passenger transportation to resort areas compared to the same period last year and transport over 4.2 million passengers.

Trains will run in the direction of Lake Alakol on 12 routes: from Astana, Almaty, East Kazakhstan and Abay regions. And also for the first time this year a train from Kyzylorda will be launched. Trains from Passenger Transportation JSC will travel on 10 routes, and trains of private carriers on two routes. The national carrier will mainly form its trains from cars equipped with an air conditioning system.

“Railway transport plays a key role in the development of tourism in the country. Every year we note an increase in demand for train tickets in the direction of Alakol. For this summer season, the number of available seats will increase compared to last year on trains to Lake Alakol by 16 thousand - to 270 thousand,” noted Zhanibek Taizhanov, Chairman of the Management Board of Passenger Transportation JSC.

Trains in the direction of Alakol will stop at popular tourist stations - Zhalanashkol, Akshi and Beskol, where all the necessary conditions have been created for a comfortable and safe stay for passengers: platforms have been enlarged, waiting rooms and ticket offices have been renovated. For the convenience of passengers, cash desks are organized at stations with cashiers working in shifts. You can also purchase tickets without commission on the website bilet.railways.kz. If there are no tickets, a passenger can stand in line and purchase a ticket for an empty seat on the train using the “Waiting List” service. This option is available free of charge on the website bilet.railways.kz or at the ticket offices of Passenger Transportation JSC.

At the moment, the National Carrier is actively preparing its rolling stock for summer transportation. Measures are being taken to re-preserve ventilation and air conditioning systems, replace air filters, wash and disinfect the water supply system, inspect and check the electrical equipment of cars, paint vestibules, titaniums, heating system pipes and other parts, as well as external washing of car bodies.

At the meeting, issues of organizing one-time trains from the cities of Pavlodar, Shymkent and Kyzylorda to Lake Alakol, early booking of tickets by tour operators - from 180 days before departure, and cooperation on the development of intermodal transportation were discussed.

Passenger Transportation JSC holds meetings with tour operators on an ongoing basis. This is the second meeting this year.
