KTZ and ALSTOM agreed to manufacture a new type of electric locomotive in Kazakhstan

NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC and ALSTOM Transport SA signed an Agreement on the production of a new type of freight electric locomotive in Kazakhstan. The signing took place in Paris during the state visit of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to France.
The document provides for the production at the electric locomotive assembly plant in Astana and the supply of a new type of freight mainline electric locomotives with asynchronous traction motors - KZ6A. This model meets the needs of freight transportation development and will replace the outdated VL-80 locomotives of the 1980 model. The new type of electric locomotive is 40% cheaper, more economical, and reduces energy consumption by 20%.
In addition, by agreement of the parties, the creation of a competence center in Astana for the development and implementation of modern technologies for managing the transportation process, ensuring a high level of safety of train traffic, has begun.
ALSTOM will also invest €50 million in the construction of four centers for technical maintenance of electric locomotives with the creation of over 700 permanent jobs.
