On November 14, 2023, in the Almaty region, NC KTZ JSC began construction of a railway line bypassing the Almaty station. The infrastructure project is being implemented on behalf of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and is of great importance for the development of the country’s transport and transit potential.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov took part in the ceremony of laying the first link of the railway track.

 

Growing in recent years, rail freight transportation between Kazakhstan and China in 2022 exceeded the historical maximum, amounting to over 23 million tons. Since the beginning of 2023, the figure has increased by 22%.

In conditions of rapidly growing traffic volumes, the Almaty railway junction, located at the crossroads of major international routes, is under pressure.

 

The implementation of the project will allow redirecting freight traffic to the new Zhetygen – Kazybek bek railway, bypassing the Almaty station. The new line will reduce the load on the Almaty hub by 40% and reduce the cargo delivery time to 24 hours.

During the construction process, 130 km of railway tracks will be laid, of which the main track is 77 km, 3 separate points, 13 bridges, 5 railway and 1 road overpass will be built. For this purpose, it is planned to purchase about 228 thousand units from domestic manufacturers. sleepers, 16 thousand tons of rails.

The construction of the highway will create about 1400 jobs.

 

To ensure uninterrupted export of domestic products and transit of goods, KTZ is actively working on infrastructure development. To increase capacity, second tracks are being built on the Dostyk-Moiynty section. In the near future, it is planned to begin construction of the Darbaza-Maktaaral and Bakhty-Ayagoz railway lines. In just three years, KTZ will build over 1,300 km of railways.
