Baggage rules on passenger trains: what is important to know

Transportation JSC offers passengers to use a special baggage transportation service.

According to the order of the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, standards have been established for the free transportation of hand luggage on passenger trains. In particular, for trains formed from Tulpar-Talgo cars, passengers can
carry free luggage weighing up to 25 kilograms and measuring no more than 150 centimeters in the sum of three dimensions. For other carriages, the permissible weight of hand luggage is up to 35 kilograms, and the dimensions are up to 200 centimeters in the sum of three dimensions.

Passengers are also allowed to transport disassembled and packaged baby strollers, kayaks, and bicycles without a motor, if their size fits in places designed to accommodate hand luggage. Passengers with disabilities can additionally carry with them free technical aids and special means of transportation intended for personal use.

It is not allowed to place hand luggage in places intended for passengers, as well as in the aisles between seats, in corridors and vestibules of cars.

If these parameters are exceeded, passengers are invited to use the baggage transportation service. To register the transportation of excess hand luggage, cargo or cargo luggage, passengers must promptly contact the baggage office located at the railway station, one hour before the train departs. The weight of luggage must be more than 10 kg.

The national carrier provides such services on routes No. 33/34 “Aktobe-Almaty”, No. 41/42 “Almaty-Atyrau”, No. 77/78 “Almaty-Mangyshlak”, No. 691/692 “Aktobe-Atyrau” and No. 9/ 10 "Almaty-Astana".
It is important to note that sending such packages through conductors is illegal and may entail administrative consequences.
