About 1.5 million tons of cargo were transshipped through the port of Kuryk

27-03-2024

Over the first 8 months of 2023, about 1.5 million tons of cargo were transshipped through the seaport of Kuryk, which is 15% higher than the same period last year. Including over 1 million tons delivered by rail, more than 430 thousand by road. The port handled 480 ferries, over 13.8 thousand wagons, and more than 18 thousand freight vehicles.

Kazakh oil and petroleum products, metals, fertilizers, and chemical products are transshipped through the port. The transit of goods coming from China, the Central Asian republics towards the ports of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and further to the countries of Eastern Europe and back is growing. Currently, a grain terminal is being built at the port, through which up to a million tons of grain will be transshipped per year.

Port Kuryk LLP is a ferry complex capable of receiving road and rail ferries year-round. Its current design capacity is 6 million tons per year.

Due to the falling level of the Caspian Sea, the port is faced with the task of deepening the bottom of the port water area to continue the efficient operation of Kuryk, which will increase the volume of cargo transshipment. It is planned to deepen the bottom of the water area to a level of -36.5 from the Baltic mark according to the design possibility. The port also plans to build and purchase Kazakh ferries to open new routes, increase export potential and increase the transport security of the republic.
