The Astana Extracurricular Railway Station was built in 1961 for 500 passengers with a total area of 4,456.7 square meters. In March 1962, Akmolinsk station was renamed Tselinograd station.
The station was considered one of the largest on the Kazakhstan railway. More than 20 pairs of passenger trains passed through it every day.
In 1990, a new high-rise station building was additionally put into operation. The main indicator of the station's capacity has increased to 1,800 passengers.
Since 2001, it has been renamed Astana-1 station
The station underwent a major reconstruction in 2004.
The total area of the building is 11,174.2 sq.m. It consists of 8 floors (9th technical floor) new building, 2 floors old building.
