About 1.2 million tons of cargo instead of the planned 700 thousand tons will be transported along the Trans-Caspian route until the end of 2017

General Meeting of the members of International Association "Trans-Caspian International Transport Route" (TITR) was held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The meeting discussed development of container traffic on the TITR, the launch of a regular container train in 2018, as well as increasing the competitiveness of tariff rates on the route next year.

Chairman of the Management Board of International Association "Trans-Caspian International Transport Route" (TITR)and the head of JSC NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" Kanat Alpysbaev summarizing the viability of the Trans-Caspian corridor, called the"important events of the formation of the route, by which by the end of this year the volume of traffic will reach about 1.2 million tons instead of the planned 700 thousand tons".

"For further development of the route, competitive tariffs approved by all TITR participants should be retained for a longer period," he said and stressed "new opportunities for growth of transportation along the route connected with the opening of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the launch of the automobile component ferry complex of the Kuryk port."

"This will give a big cargo traffic and to strengthen the volumes of these facilities it is necessary to strengthen joint work with Azerbaijani, Georgian, Turkish partners. The Kazakh side will make every effort to maximize the stimulation of cargo flows, including reducing the delivery time of cargoes up to 14-15 days, " Kanat  Alpysbaev said and suggested signing the Roadmap to reach the terms of delivery of goods on the route no more than 15 days.

According to Alpysbaev, in order to attract cargo traffic to the route, it is also necessary to organize the launch of regular container trains, at least 2 times a month, in the direction of the PRC-Turkey/Georgia. In addition, consideration should be given to the use of feeder vessels with the possibility of transporting about 40-50 containers.

His vision of the development of cooperation between the International Association of TITR and its participants with the Turkish railways was outlined by the head of the company Veysi Kurt at the meeting.

Within the framework of the General Meeting, the multimodal operator of JSC KTZ Express concluded an agreement on the services of rail transportation on the territory of Turkey.

By the decision of the General meeting, in connection with the change of the first leaders of the JSC Georgian Railways and Batumi Sea Port, the new membership of the Association's Board was approved.
