Kazakhstan's role in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) is noted at the Tbilisi Belt and Road Forum

On November 28-29, delegation of JSC NC KTZ headed by the vice-president for development of the Company Maksat Kabashev took part in the Tbilisi Belt and Road Forum (Georgia).

Maksat Kabashev, who spoke at the panel session "New Gateway for Opportunities", noted the great potential of Kazakhstan for the development of transit transportations and emphasized the role of JSC NC KTZ in the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Transit and Multimodal Transport.

“Merger of Kazakhstan policy “Nurly Zhol” and Chinese project “One Belt – One Road” ensures synergy of transport and logistics systems of our countries and develops the new architecture of transcontinental corridors”, he said.

The Trans-Caspian Route has historically become the key trade route of the Great Silk Way and today. In order to support the Trans-Caspian Route 1 676 km of new railways and 3 414 km of highways were constructed, Aktau seaport was modernized, a new ferry complex was constructed in Kuryk providing the most optimal route for cargo transportation from China, Central Asia and Ural-Siberian Region of Russia via the Trans-Caspian Route.

“It would allow achieving overall capacity of Kazakhstan’s ports to 25 million tons per year by 2020 and will affect development of the Trans-Caspian route from China to Turkey and further to Europe via Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia”, Maksat Kabashev noted.

In recent years, the countries of the Trans-Caspian route were heavily investing in modernization and construction of new transport and logistics infrastructure along the route creating commercial advantage of the Trans-Caspian route.

The joint Kazakhstan-Chinese terminal in the port of Lianyungang becomes one of the key points for consolidation of cargo coming from China and other South East Asian countries and shipped by high-speed container trains using the Trans-Caspian route.

A modern logistics hub was created on the border between China and Kazakhstan – the Special Economic Zone “Khorgos – Eastern Gates” which is oriented at distribution of cargo to the Eurasian regions including the Caspian region.

Recently a new railway line between Baku in Azerbaijan connecting Akhalakalaki in Georgia and Kars in Turkey was commissioned and put into operation providing direct access to Turkey and further to European markets.

“As a result, we can offer our clients not only competitive prices for transportation of goods, but the highest possible speed in transportation of cargo via this route - about 13-14 days to deliver goods from the East China to Turkey”, he concluded.

Tbilisi Belt and Road Forum is an effective platform for dialogue between the authorities and the business community and to hold bilateral meetings. More than 100 delegates took part in this forum: representatives of the participating countries of the project, international organizations and the private sector.
