Kazakhstan’s container train arrived to Turkish city Mersin

The first container train, launched from Kokshetau station (Kazakhstan), entered the Turkish city Mersin as part of commissioning of new connection line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars.

Container train with grain, consisting of thirty 20-foot containers belonging to JSC NC KTZ and immersed in the wagons of ZAO AŽD, crossed 5,435 kilometers in 10 days.

Train passed through ferry port Kuryk - Alyat port in the Caspian Sea. At the same time, an overload was made from broad gauge wagons to narrow-gauge wagons on the new Georgian-Turkish border crossing Akhalalaki-Kars.

"Successful implementation of the project was made possible thanks to the well-coordinated work of all stakeholders: railway, port, maritime administrations, logistics companies - participants of the Trans-Caspian international transport route," says Almat Karimov, director of container transportation department of  JSC KTZ Express.

According to A. Karimov, the dispatch of the container train to the Turkish port of Mersin is organized by the subsidiary company of JSC NC KTZ - KTZ Express. To create an efficient logistics chain for the delivery of goods on TITR, attract container flows and create a balance of freight base, KTZ Express offered the shipper a multimodal delivery in containers using services of road transport and the Kazakhstan transport and logistics infrastructure.

"The potential of new route is estimated at 10 million tons of cargo per year. In the near future, the next consignment will be shipped, "A. Karimov noted and stressed that the launch of routes using multimodal solutions and own terminal infrastructure will allow Kazakhstan to increase the volumes of grain exportations both to Turkey and to other countries of near and far countries.
